The woman deftly sews on a button on the shirt her man is wearing. She moves her face close to his chest to cut off the thread with her teeth, because real women don’t use scissors.
I have been reading your columns in Mint Lounge every Saturday ( though not seen since two years at least). But this was really beautiful piece of writing which immediately resonated with me. Thanks so much. ❤️❤️
Natasha I think I have read this before and now again. The gentleness of your words and the mellowness of the intimacies you describe are heartwarming. The safety net of small everyday familiarities, that sustain. So so beautiful.
"It is also true that it is more socially acceptable to talk about irritations." This is an essay which has been read before. Each time it resonates differently. And just last week I was telling to good doctor how exasperated I feel that wife and husband berating is source of fun and merriment. I do not like it. I prefer to quietly hold hands or catch his eye when no one else looking. Natasha your words are like balm.
Ufff! This is beautiful. Especially this line - "Their temple room is full of images of deities but they seem like they are in communion with each other."
Honest confession - I don't recollect when I had subscribed to this newsletter. I am facing PPD since many months and have struggled with the ups and downs of life with lot more bumps due to that. I craved the stillness and I do seek writing as a way out to vent or pour down my feelings. I found that stillness in your writing. Absolutely loved this piece of writing .. :)
Thanks for sharing, Deepali. Writing can be both healing as well as transformative in how it offers us a space to re-jig our perspective on our own life and relationships.
I must also confess that PPD and other struggles of trying to recognize and keep my whole self together with little kids and a young marriage... played a big part in turning me into a writer. :)
